Boats have always been part of Horacio’s imaginative ideology. From a very early age the artist showed a fascination for floating machines, and this would later take on a pictorial form. The ‘Boats’ series not only represents romantic marine vehicles for human subsistence, but rather elements that transport effort, confidence and hope.
Two Boats on the Beach tells a story of recent arrivals, possibly even intimate friends who have chosen to escape from chaotic lives to find relaxation and exploration on a sandy shore. The proximity of the boats with their shadows touching, denote a close relationship between the travelers. The wooden trim of the exteriors are similar in model and size and composed with equal diligence. But it is in the crafts’ differences that the painter expresses the characters of both the vessels and travelers. One is bare, simple and proper condition. The other is complex, worn, more experienced.
